Anyone else feel like this is a never ending story that never will be finished?
Ok the sandbox universe is one thing, but the Squadron 42 single player game was to be released in 2017, and the latest update has a roadmap with beta scheduled for 2020...
I have a feeling they are just squishing as much money as they can out of the idea here and not committing to a final product.

I think they will come out with products at some point. Still the wonder at their mind blowing proposal back when the first kick-started it... will have been done by far more games at that time. Where they land on the scale of quality will be what counts by then.

If you want a game that has this sort of thing in it.

Or this

Or this content I created.

or that time me and some friends went around a moon in a vehicle. It took us about 16 hours in real time stretched over 5 play sessions.

Then SC may be for you. If not then probably it won't be.
All the above content was created by players in the alpha with limited tools and a passion for the game. None of it is pre-rendered obviously.
Star Citizen is dream, a dream both the fans and the developers share and a passion that we all have to make a game like no other. Not just another run of the mill AAA franchise but a living breathing universe for us all to live out our Star Trek/Star Wars fantasies in.
If it's a scam it's a very bad one. Considering they just published their financials and they have spent every penny raised on making the game.
Complex things take time and SC is a very very complex game. Red Dead 2 took 8 years and that was made by Rockstar a developer who had a proven track record and four whole studios already set up and running. My advice is to keep your eye on SC and wait and see what happens.
As someone who is heavily invested in the game both personally and financially don't take my word for it. I'm biased. Just wait and see what comes out in 2020. It may just surprise you.

Re: Star Citizen, going somewhere or a scam?
Did not mean to offend you Talon, from how I remember you I would guess this game, or rather virtual universe suits you, and probably quite a few others in Worlds Away perfectly
On my part, although its impressive, I like a story to a game, some goal to aim for, some progress if you catch my meaning. Squadron 42 therefor looked like something that would be a really good game for me. I am fully aware that it takes time to make a quality product, but the reason i asked the question is that it seems like the more money they are able to raise they just push the scope of the end product wider.
In a virtual universe where the player base are the main source of content by setting up orgs and communities and interacting this is great, but for a story driven single player game like SQ42 it means that they never reach the point of feature complete and finalize the product for release. Its a difficult balance to get right, you need it to be rich and good and with enough content to keep the player entertained for at least a few days of gaming. On the other hand you need to actually release a product at some stage and then continue to build on it with DLC's / patches.
What worries me at the moment is if they ever will get to the point, "Ok this is good enough, lets release it". Many games are delayed, and I guess the real error on their side was building an expectation that the game would be released in 2017/18. Seeing now that beta is scheduled for 2020 it just makes me sceptical.... today a game is often in beta for several years as well... I do hope SQ42 is released as planned though and if so I really look forward to trying it out... The stories you make about SC and the movies/pictures look stunning!
So continue to enjoy SC Talon, I will withdraw to the shadows with my troubled thoughts and watch.....

Don't worry mate. No offence taken
And I completely agree with all your points above. But I think this game is going to be special but not for everyone.
